INDIANA, Pa. – Nine IUP players scored in double-figures, with three of those hitting career-highs, as the fifth-ranked Crimson Hawks defeated visiting Geneva 125-53 in the school's fourth annual Education Day game on Monday at the Kovalchick Complex.
The 125 points broke a school record, eclipsing the previous mark of 113 set against Davis & Elkins on Nov. 29, 1989.
The Crimson Hawks also broke program records with most points in a quarter (38) and highest field goal percentage (.685) in a single game. Three Monday totals rank second in single game program history, including most points in a half (65), margin of victory (72), and field goals made (50).
The scoring records helped the Crimson Hawks to their 10th straight win to open the season, as they are one of 12 Division II schools still undefeated on the year.
A crowd of nearly 800 children from Penns Manor, Homer-Center, and St. Bernard's Elementary Schools, and Indiana Area Junior High School witnessed the record-breaking day as part of the Crimson Hawks' fourth annual Education Day.
IUP raced out to a 32-9 lead after the opening quarter, scoring 28 points in the second to take a 60-21 lead into the break. The record 38 points came in the third quarter as part of the 65 second half scoring output.
