Diaz Records Double-Double in No. 4 IUP's 91-76 Win at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – Sophomore Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) recorded his tenth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds in leading No. 4 IUP to a 91-76 victory over Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.

With the win the Crimson Hawks extend their winning streak to 14 games and improve to 23-2 overall and 18-1 in PSAC play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots fall to 6-16 behind a 4-14 mark in league play.

Diaz was one of four IUP players to score in double-figures. Redshirt senior Devon Cottrell (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Gateway) scored a team-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Redshirt junior Blake Danielak (Georgetown, Tex./Liberty Hill) scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Junior Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) scored 15 points and added nine rebounds and two assists.

Edinboro took an early 10-5 lead after a jumper from Jaymon Mason at the 15:01-mark. IUP answered with an 11-5 run to take a 16-15 lead on a layup from Danielak midway through the first half. Glover pushed the Crimson Hawks lead to 27-23 on a three-pointer at the 7:10-mark. After tying the game at 34-34 with 3:04 to play in the first half, IUP closed the half on a 9-2 run to take a 43-36 lead.

In the second half, the Fighting Scots cut the lead to two (47-45) on a layup from Sheldon Brogdon at the 17:01-mark. The Crimson Hawks once again answered as IUP used a 14-5 run to push the lead to 61-50 after a three-pointer from Danielak. Minutes later Diaz hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to 74-56 at the 8:20-mark. A three-pointer from Glover gave the Crimson Hawks their largest lead of the game at 83-64. From there, IUP maintained a double-digit lead en-route to the win.

IUP shot 46.7 percent (35-of-75) from the floor including a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. In comparison, Edinboro shot 53.6 percent (30-of-56) from the field. The Crimson Hawks held a distinct 41-27 rebounding margin.

Maceo Baston scored a game-high 24 points for Edinboro while Mason added 17 points.
