OBERLIN, Ohio – On the strength of five singles victories, No. 28 IUP women's tennis cruised to a 7-2 win over Oberlin inside at the John W. Heisman Field House on Saturday afternoon.

It was the spring season opener for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 2-0 overall. Oberlin is the 40th ranked team in Division III, and fell to 1-3 on the year.
IUP took 2-1 lead after doubles play
The Crimson Hawks won the first two matches of the afternoon, getting wins at the two and three spots.
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) won 8-4 at two, while
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset, U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) picked up a 9-8 (7-5) win at three.
Five more wins came in singles play
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) rebounded from a loss at the first doubles spot with a 6-4, 6-3 match clinching victory at first singles. She was one of five IUP players to earn singles wins, including
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) 6-2, 6-3 at two, Gonzalez 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 at three, Wood 6-2, 6-1 at four, and Butland 6-3, 6-3 at five.

The Crimson Hawks head to Pittsburgh next weekend to face off against Carnegie Mellon on Saturday.
