INDIANA, Pa. – The third-ranked IUP men's basketball recorded a 67-59 victory over Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Saturday night at the Kovalchick Complex.
With the win the Crimson Hawks improve to 24-2 overall and 19-1 in PSAC play. The win was the 15th consecutive victory for IUP and is tied for the longest streak under head coach
Joe Lombardi. It also marks the 23rd straight PSAC West home win for IUP. Meanwhile, the Griffins fall to 11-14 behind an 8-13 mark in conference play.
Sophomore
Dante Lombardi (Indiana, Pa./The Kiski School) scored a team-high 16 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists. Junior
Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) added 12 points, four assists and three rebounds. Redshirt senior
Devon Cottrell (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Gateway) also scored 12 points while adding eight rebounds (five offensive), two assists, and one steal.
IUP opened the game on a 10-3 run after a three-pointer from Lombardi at the 17:12-mark. Minutes later a pair of free-throws from
Brandon Spain (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie) pushed the Crimson Hawk lead to 15-7. A 7-3 IUP run extended the lead to 22-12 midway through the first half on a jumper from Lombardi. Seton Hill then cut the lead to six (27-21) at the 7:57-mark on a Noah Davis three-pointer. The Crimson Hawks answered with a 10-2 run that extended the lead back to double digits at 37-23 at the 5:22-mark.
Early in the second half Seton Hill cut the lead to 40-32 on a layup from Spencer Casson at the 17:05-mark. A three-pointer from Lombardi gave IUP a 50-37 lead minutes later. The Griffins countered with a 15-8 run that pulled them to within 58-52 at the 7:39-mark. The Crimson Hawks then used a quick 6-0 run to go up 12 (64-52) and essentially put the game out of reach.
IUP shot at a 40.7 percent (24-of-59) clip, including 42.4 percent (14-of-33) in the second half. In comparison, Seton Hill shot 50.0 percent (23-of-46) from the floor IUP held a commanding 40-23 rebounding margin.
Casson led the Griffins with a game-high 24 points while Davis added 16 points.
