IUP Women's Basketball falls to Virginia Union in Atlantic Region semifinals

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Sophomore guard Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Central Catholic) scored a game-high 20 points and dished out seven assists, but IUP's women's basketball season came to an end with a 62-58 loss to Virginia Union in the semifinals of the Atlantic Region Championships at Hamer Hall. 

The Crimson Hawks end their season as the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Champions. They finished with a 24-7 overall record. 

Appleby was one of three IUP players to score in double-figures, joined by Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) and Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa. /Central Dauphin East), who had 18 and 11 points, respectively.

The Crimson Hawks forced Virginia Union (25-4) into 22 turnovers, but IUP was outrebounded 46-to-23 on the evening.
