INDIANA, Pa. – On the strength of five singles victories, No. 28 IUP women's tennis defeated Slippery Rock 7-2 in its home opener on Tuesday afternoon.

The victory ended a four-match losing streak for the Crimson Hawks, as they improved to 6-4 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division. It was The Rock's PSAC opener and second straight loss, as they fell to 4-6 on the season.
IUP takes pair of doubles matches
Rachel Wood and
Raquel Gonzalez won the opening match of the day, an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. IUP took a 2-0 lead as the No. 3 doubles team of
Sophie Butland and
Katya Minchenkova picked up an 8-1 victory.
15th-ranked
Jarka Petercakova and
Luise von Agris dropped an 8-4 decision to Lacey Cohen and Carla Corrochano at No. 1.
Five straight singles victories wraps up IUP's day
Gonzalez helped start a 5-0 run in singles play for the Crimson Hawks, as they clinched the Tuesday win. Gonzalez won easily 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, followed by Minchenkova (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4, Wood (6-2, 6-1) at No. 5, Butland (6-2, 6-3) at No. 6, and Petercakova (6-3, 6-2) at No. 1.
The only singles loss came at No. 2, as 50th-ranked von Agris dropped a three-setter (6-4, 2-6, 10-8) to Carla Corrochano, The Rock's top-ranked player according to the ITA.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks currently have a pair of road matches scheduled for this weekend, heading east to play Chestnut Hill on Saturday and Goldey-Beacom on Sunday.
