CALIFORNIA, Pa. – 35th-ranked IUP women's tennis closed out its divisional schedule on Tuesday with an easy 9-0 win over California (Pa.) at Rodman Park.
The victory over Cal was IUP's first in the Coach
Larry Peterson era, as the Crimson Hawks improved to 14-5 overall. They also clinched second place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with a 5-1 league record. Cal fell to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the division with the loss.

IUP's first and third doubles teams easily dispatched of the Vulcans, including an 8-1 win at No. 1 by 16th-ranked
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium).
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset, U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) blanked Cal's No. 3 team by a score of 8-0.
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) hung on for an impressive 9-8 win at No. 2 over Jasi Witherspoon and Katie Olsen, the sixth-ranked doubles team in the Atlantic Region.
The Crimson Hawks won all six singles matches in two sets, with Petercakova defeating Witherspoon 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. Witherspoon is Cal's only regionally-ranked player, sitting at No. 12 in the Atlantic.
IUP's other singles wins included von Agris 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2; Gonzalez 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3; Minchenkova 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4; Wood 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5; and Butland 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
