INDIANA, Pa. –
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley),
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus), and
Francesca Paterno (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) each tallied three goals to lead No. 19 IUP women's lacrosse to a 17-5 win over visiting Edinboro at Miller Stadium on Thursday.
They were three of 10 total Crimson Hawks to score a goal as IUP improved to 9-5 overall and into sole possession of second place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with an 8-2 league record.
Paterno's three goals were the first of the true freshman's career, while Hooven tied a season-high and Burrows tallied her ninth game of at least three scores this season.
IUP overcame and early 2-2 tie, scoring six straight goals to take an 8-2 lead with just under 25 minutes left to play. Both teams combined for a mini goal-scoring streak early on in the second half, putting up eight scores over a 7:56 time span.
The Crimson Hawks ended Edinboro's (2-11, 0-9 PSAC) scoring with 17:20 left to play, and ended the game with a 6-0 run for the 12-score victory.
Goalie
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) led the IUP defense with 11 saves, her seventh double-figure save outing of the season.
Hannah Bertolo (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional),
Riley Greenleaf (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield), and Lontoc all caused two turnovers, with Bertolo posting a team-high four ground balls.
Bertolo brought her season ground ball total to 51, tying her career-high. She's also now eight ground balls away from tying Sarah DeMaio (59, 2008) for the most all-time in IUP program history.
