EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 19th ranked IUP women's lacrosse team fell to No. 15 East Stroudsburg in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular season finale, 16-8 on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
With the loss, the Crimson Hawks fall to 10-6 overall and 9-3 in PSAC play and earn the No. 4 seed in next week's PSAC Women's Lacrosse Championship. Meanwhile, the Warriors improve to 15-2 overall behind an 11-1 mark in league play and earn the No. 1 seed in the conference championship.
Sophomore attacker
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) paved the way offensively for IUP as she recorded her 10th 3+ goal game of the season. She scored her three goals on just seven shots while adding two ground balls. The trio of
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley),
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) and
Riley Greenleaf (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) each scored a goal and tallied one assist.
Defensively the Crimson Hawks were led by four ground balls from
Katie Martyn (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding). Greenleaf, Burrows and
Mollie Gallagher (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) each totaled two ground balls. Goalie
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) recorded 15 saves while playing all 60 minutes.
Greenleaf tied the game at 2-2 with a tally at the 18:02-mark of the first half on an unassisted goal. East Stroudsburg then scored four unanswered goals over the next 7:31 to take a 6-2 lead midway through the first half. Burrows pulled the Crimson Hawks to within 6-3 with a goal assisted by Greenleaf. Adrianna Greco then made it 6-4 with an unassisted goal with 4:56 to play in the first half. The Warriors then scored three unanswered goals to push the lead to 9-4 before Burrows scored her second goal of the first half to pull to within 9-5 at halftime.
In the second half, Alicia Stratten gave East Stroudsburg a 12-5 lead after a man-up goal off a feed from Hana Cicerelle at the 21:18-mark. IUP cut then cut the lead to 14-6 with a goal by
Katie Martyn (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) off a feed from
Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) with 13:07 to play in the second half. Goals by
Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) (11:21) and Burrows (10:24) cut the lead to 14-8 as IUP countered with three straight goals. The Crimson Hawks were not able to get any closer as the Warriors added two insurance tallies to earn the win.
East Stroudsburg held a 40-20 shot advantage while IUP held a 15-11 edge in draw controls.

IUP will begin PSAC tournament play against fifth-seeded Slippery Rock at home on Tuesday, May 2 beginning at 4 p.m. The Crimson Hawks defeated The Rock, 10-7 back on April 12.
