INDIANA, Pa. –
Nate Dickey (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) had four hits and drove in five runs, as the Crimson Hawks totaled 22 hits in a home doubleheader sweep of Clarion on Sunday afternoon at Dougherty Field.
IUP had nine extra base hits, including three home runs, to win the day with scores of 14-5 and 8-6.
The two wins wrapped up a four-game series sweep of Clarion, the Crimson Hawks first such sweep since the end of the 2014 season.
IUP improved to 10-14 overall, but more importantly is now tied with Slippery Rock for second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a 7-5 divisional record. Mercyhurst leads the way at 11-1, while Seton Hill and California are tied for fourth at 6-6.
Dickey was one of six players with multiple hits on Saturday, with
Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge),
Scott Hess (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep), and
Cory Wheeler (Butler, Pa./Butler) each combining for three hits in the doubleheader. Wheeler and
Matt Swartz (Sarver PA/Freeport) both hit home runs and drove in four runs, while
Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) also went yard.
Picking up the wins on the mound were
Mike Klingensmith (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) in game one and
Christian McClure (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) in the nightcap. Klingensmith struck out six in six innings of work, giving up four runs on eight hits. McClure was credited with the win in relief, striking out three and giving up one earned over the final 3.2 innings of the game two win.

The Crimson Hawks play a doubleheader at Penn State Dubois on Tuesday, before a four-game set with Slippery Rock next weekend.
