ERIE, Pa. – Freshman
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) and senior
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) advanced to the doubles semifinals as IUP women's tennis competed in the opening day of the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Championships at Mercyhurst University on Saturday.
The top bracket's second overall seed, Beidacki and von Agris received a first round bye before defeating West Liberty's Laura Huwe and Alaina Pauley by a score of 8-2 in the quarterfinals. They'll face top seeded Saioa Gomez and Adina Spahalic of Mercyhurst in the semifinal round.
Beidacki also advanced to the quarterfinals of the top singles bracket, defeating Slippery Rock's Olivia Warner 6-1, 6-1 and Fairmont State's Heloisa Adams 6-3, 6-3. She'll play top seed and defending champion Gomez in the quarters.
Von Agris received a bye to the second round, and is joined by freshman Maria Magranar Grau, who defeated Edinboro's Tatiana Batalla 6-2, 6-3 in the first.
