BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) and freshman
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) each advanced in singles and doubles play as IUP women's tennis competed in the first day of the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships in Bloomsburg on Saturday.
UPDATED SINGLES BRACKET | UPDATED DOUBLES BRACKET
Von Agris and Beidacki advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket, each winning a pair of early matches.
The third overall seed, von Agris defeated Clarion's Alivia Arnold 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round and East Stroudsburg's Marina Zardet 6-0, 6-1 in the second. She'll square off against Mercyhurst's Kayla Frost at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Beidacki, working as the fourth seed, moved on with an equally easy 6-0, 6-0 first round win over Liz Wolnar of California. She then took down teammate
Mariana Valenzuela (Bogotá, Colombia/George Berkeley School) 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. Beidacki will face Edinboro's Laura Lopez in Sunday's quarterfinals.
Valenzuela defeated West Chester's Rylee Power 6-3, 7-6 in the opening round before her loss to Beidacki.
Also working as a doubles pairing, von Agris and Beidacki won two more matches Saturday to move onto the bracket's semifinals. The top overall seed, the opened with an 8-0 win over Alivia Arnold and Maria Snyder of Clarion, and then defeated Millersville's Katina Jones and Corrine Grohoski 8-2.
They'll face Slippery Rock's Viola Lugmayr and Lacey Cohen Sunday morning in the 9 a.m. semifinals.
Valenzuela and
Maria Magraner Grau (Valencia, Spain/IES Jaume II el Just) dropped their opening round match with West Chester's Leandra Roekler and Tatiana Batalla by a score of 8-2.
Tournament schedule
The singles quarterfinals matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. with the semifinals set for 2:30 p.m. The singles championship is Monday at 11 a.m. Doubles semifinals matches are 9 a.m. with the championship Monday at the same time.
