INDIANA, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks needed just one score, with senior
Cassidy LeDonne (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) providing that goal in the 39th minute, as IUP picked up a 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer win on Saturday afternoon at South Campus Field.
LeDonne scored on a header off of a corner kick by classmate
Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford). It was LeDonne's first goal of the year, with Baumgartner tallying her team-leading second assist.
The win evens IUP's conference record at 2-2, also improving to 3-2 overall. Shippensburg fell to 1-2-1 with the loss.
IUP freshman goalie
Madeline Smakulski (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area High School) didn't see much work in the net, stopping Shippensburg's two shots on goal in the 44th and 78th minutes. It was her second shutout in just three games this year, as she lowered her goals against averaged to 0.64.
Despite the low score, the Crimson Hawks dominated offensively and finished with eight of 16 shots on goal.
Kipp honored at halftime
Tia Kipp, who was inducted into the IUP Athletic Hall of Fame earlier in the day, was honored in a special halftime presentation. Kipp played from 1999-2002, earning All-PSAC honors four times while leading IUP in scoring three straight years. She graduated as the program's all-time leading scorer with 83 points in 69 games.
