Turnovers prove costly for IUP Men’s Basketball as winning streak ends in loss to East Stroudsbur

INDIANA, Pa. – Senior guard Anthony Glover, Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) scored a game-high 22 points, but he couldn't overcome IUP's 28 total turnovers as the Crimson Hawks fell to visiting East Stroudsburg 85-82 at the Kovalchick Complex on Wednesday night.

After East Stroudsburg missed the front end of a one-and-one with 11 seconds to play, the Crimson Hawks had one final possession to tie the game. The Warriors used their trapping defense to limit IUP's look and blocked the game-tying 3-point attempt as the buzzer sounded.

The loss ended the Crimson Hawks' six-game win streak, as they fall to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

The Crimson Hawks gave up 15 of their 28 turnovers in the second half alone, as the Warriors (10-3, 7-2) rallied from a 44-40 IUP halftime lead. The Crimson Hawks held that lead heading into the locker room despite East Stroudsburg living at the foul line, making 17-of-23 from the charity stripe in the game's first 20 minutes.

ESU grabbed a 54-53 lead less than five minutes into the second half, but the Crimson Hawks went on a 17-8 run over the next six minutes to take a 70-61 lead with nine minutes to go. A hot streak keyed the Crimson Hawks run as they made 9 straight field goals and 11-of-12 at one point.

The Warriors rallied to tie the game at 74-74 with 3:10 to play and grabbed an 81-76 lead with 27 seconds left as part of a 14-2 run.

Buckets by Glover and Malik Miller (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) along with foul shots by Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) kept the Crimson Hawks in the game in the final seconds before the sequence.

Cobo nearly picked up his second straight double-double with 17 points and nine boards, dishing out five assists with three steals and a block in 39 minutes. Miller scored 15 points in 32 minutes off the bench, and Willem Brandwijk (Voorburg, The Netherlands/Holderness School (NH)) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks return to divisional play this Saturday at Edinboro (10-4, 7-3). Tipoff is 3 p.m. It's the first of two straight road games, as they'll head to California (8-8, 4-6) next Wednesday.
