EDINBORO, Pa – Battling from start to finish, senior forward
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) led the Crimson Hawks to a huge win, defeating the Edinboro Fighting Scots 74-68 at the McComb Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
Smith tallied 22 points, shooting 9-18 from the field and picking up seven rebounds and one assist for the Crimson Hawks.
After this afternoon's win, IUP improves their undefeated record to 15-0 overall and 10-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Fighting Scots fall to 13-2 overall and 9-2 in the PSAC.
A tight race from the start, the largest lead the Crimson Hawks held came in the last 0.17 seconds on the game by six points.
Junior guard
Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and senior guard
Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) also played key roles in IUP's victory. Appleby picked up 18 points, three assists and two steals. Also, she went 4-4 from the foul line, making all four shots in the last 30 seconds in the game.
Denman totaled 11 points, going 4-6 from the field. She also had three blocks, two assists and two steals.
IUP outshot Edinboro at the foul line, going 14-16. In addition, the Crimson Hawks scored 14 points off of turnovers, compared to Edinboro who had 15 points off of turnovers.

The Crimson Hawks look to continue their undefeated record, heading to California (PA) for a must have win against the California Vulcans, Wednesday, January 17, at 5:30 p.m.
