Conte ties school record for assists in a single game in victory over Mansfield

INDIANA, Pa. – Senior Kallie Conte tied the school record for assists in a single game with 3 helpers as the IUP Women's Soccer team (6-4-1, 4-4-1, PSAC) cruised to a 4-1 victory over Mansfield on Homecoming afternoon. Conte's assists all came in the first half of the match as the Crimson Hawks blitzed the Mountaineers en route to opening up a dominant four goal lead within the first 45 minutes of the game.

Not only did Conte set up three goals during the match, but she also opened the scoring for the Crimson Hawks when she turned in a corner from Nikki Bowman at the near post in the 9th minute. Conte then returned the favor in the 18th minute when her pass found Bowman making a diagonal run behind the Mansfield back line. Bowman collected Conte's pass and when faced with a one on one with the Mansfield goalkeeper, she calmly slotted the ball into the Mountaineer's net to give IUP a two-goal lead. IUP would add to that lead just three minutes later when forward Mahogany Willis scored the third goal of the game. Once again Conte was the provider as she drove a long ball to Willis inside the Mansfield 18 yard box. Conte's ball hit Willis in mid-stride, and instead of letting the ball bounce or attempting to control it Willis chose to volley it out of the air for a spectacular goal.

IUP would wrap up the scoring for the half in the 35th minute with Conte picking up her record-tying third assist of the game when her cross from the left wing was headed in by Taylor Karan for the first goal of her IUP career. The Crimson Hawks were well worth their four-goal lead at the break, backing up a dominant offensive effort with a stifling defensive stand which saw IUP hold Mansfield to zero shots in the half.

With a comfortable cushion from the first half established the Crimson Hawks were able to make a series of changes throughout the second period to give several players a well-deserved break on what had become a very warm and humid day. Down four goals the Mountaineers were forced to commit more numbers to the attack, and as a result the second half was a much more open and even affair.

The Mountaineers would be rewarded for their endeavor when they managed to drag a goal back with under ten minutes left to play. However, it would prove to be a small consolation as the Crimson Hawks were able to see out the rest of the game without incident to round off an impressive victory.
