No. 3 IUP Women’s Hoops opens conference play with dominant 72-41 win at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior forward Brittany Robinson scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the third-ranked Crimson Hawks to a 72-41 win over Kutztown Saturday afternoon.

It was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for both teams as IUP improved to 6-0 to start the season.

Robinson finished 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line to post her season-high in just 26 minutes of action. She also had two blocks on the afternoon.

Robinson was one of three Crimson Hawks to hit double-figures in scoring as senior guard Carolyn Appleby had 17 points and junior forward Lexi Griggs added 10 points.

Those three gave IUP a hot start as the Crimson Hawks took an 18-1 lead in the first quarter. They combined to score 15 of those 18 points, and Robinson's first block of the game led to a transition 3-pointer by junior guard Natalie Myers to make the game 11-0 less than three minutes in.

IUP forced the Golden Bears (1-6, 0-1 PSAC) into a poor shooting performance as they went 0-of-10 in the first quarter.

The Crimson Hawks built a 24-point lead early in the second quarter when a Robinson free throw made it 30-6. IUP took a 42-16 lead into halftime and continued to cruise in the second half, going on top by as many as 39 points in the third quarter in registering another blowout victory.
