OBERLIN, Oh. – The IUP women's tennis team opened their spring season with a victory match on Saturday, beating Oberlin College 8-1 at the John W. Heisman Field House.

IUP improves to 2-0 on the year, as Oberlin, who is currently ranked 38
th in the nation in Division III, fall to 4-4.
Oberlin opened up the match with a 8-3 win at the No. 3 doubles spot, over
Julia Newman (Tauranga, New Zealand/Tauranga Girls' College) and
Maria Magraner Grau (Valencia, Spain/IES Jaume II el Just). IUP responded by taking the next two doubles win.
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) won 8-2 at No. 1 spot and
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) and
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) picked up a 8-4 win at No. 2.
The Crimson Hawks swept in singles competitions, winning all six of their respective matches. Wins include
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 at two,
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) 6-1, 6-1 at three,
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) 6-1, 6-4 at four,
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) 6-2, 6-1 at one,
Julia Newman (Tauranga, New Zealand/Tauranga Girls' College) 6-3, 6-0 at five and
Mariana Valenzuela (Bogotá, Colombia/George Berkeley School) 6-1, 6-0 at six.
