Top-seed Crimson Hawks advance to PSAC semifinals with 67-52 win over Seton Hill

INDIANA, Pa. – Four different players scored in double-figures as IUP women's basketball used a balanced attack for a 67-52 win over visiting Seton Hill in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships Wednesday night at the Kovalchick Complex.

The top seed from the PSAC Western Division, the Crimson Hawks have earned the right to host the semifinal and championship rounds of the conference tournament this weekend.

Guard Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) did a little bit of everything for IUP, finishing with 10 points, seven assists, five rebounds, five steals and a block in 39 minutes on the court.

Forward Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) finished with a game-high 16 points, with forward Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and guard Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) each adding 14 points.

The Crimson Hawks (26-2) overcame a rough stretch in the third and fourth quarters, as they saw their 18-point lead evaporate to six at 52-46 with 6:19 to play. Wolosik stopped the Seton Hill run with a layup-and-one, jumpstarting a 15-3 run by IUP over the next five minutes that sealed the win.

IUP took advantage of some costly fouls by Seton Hill (20-10) during that stretch, converting 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Smith made 6-of-6 on her own, and the Crimson Hawks finished the game 14-of-16 as a team. It continues a recent stretch of success from the foul line, as they've converted better than 79 percent from the foul line in the last four games.

The IUP defense again plays strong
The Crimson Hawks forced Seton Hill into 19 turnovers, while the Griffins shot just 29.3 percent from the field, including 8-of-29 from 3-point range. In addition to Wolosik's five steals, Robinson and guard Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) had three apiece.

Appleby hits a milestone
With a 3-pointer at the 3:35 mark of the second quarter, Appleby hit the 1,000 point milestone for her career. The junior reaches the mark in 87 games and becomes the 25th player in program history to hit four-digits, joining teammate Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) who got there earlier this year.

Appleby now has 1,009 career points.
