INDIANA, Pa. — Junior forward
Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) and senior guard
Anthony Glover, Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) each posted a 20-point performance Saturday night, as IUP men's basketball defeated Gannon 74-66 at the Kovalchick Complex.
Diaz scored a game-high 24 points, going 9-of-14 from the field, 3-of-4 from the foul line and a season high 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Cobo added eight rebounds, four assists and a season-high two blocks during 36 minutes of work.
Glover had his twelfth 20-point performance this season, scoring 23 points with three assists and grabbing three boards. Glover had the hot-hand from long distance, converting 5-of-8 from 3-point range and going 8-of-12 from the field.
The win was the seventh straight for the Crimson Hawks, improving their record to 18-2 overall and 14-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the best conference record in the league.
The beginning of the first half was a struggle back and forth before back-to-back 3-pointers by
Blake Danielak (Georgetown, Tex./Liberty Hill) and
Ayron Hutton (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) increased IUP to a nine-point lead over the Golden Knights (14-8, 10-6). The Crimson Hawks were efficient, shooting 54 percent from the field and 48 percent from long distance.
The Crimson Hawks dished out 19 assists on their 27 made buckets, with 10 of those assists coming from
Dante Lombardi (Indiana, Pa./The Kiski School).
IUP leads the all-time series with Gannon 24-22, winning five straight games by sweeping regular season series in 2015-16 and 2016-17; IUP's last loss to Gannon was the 69-66 defeat in the 2015 PSAC Championship.
