WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
Mike Klingensmith (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) struck out seven and gave up one earned run to help the Crimson Hawks to a 5-2 victory over Winston-Salem State Saturday afternoon. The victory came after a 4-1 IUP loss to Winston-Salem earlier in the afternoon.
Klingensmith went five innings in the nightcap, scattering five hits while walking two. The win was the first for the Crimson Hawks this season as they improved to 1-8 on the year.
Klingensmith gave up his only run in the second inning with the Crimson Hawks already winning 3-0.
Matt Swartz (Sarver PA/Freeport) drove in the game's first RBI on a single to left while
Nate Dickey (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) later doubled to right, scoring Swartz and
Cory Wheeler (Butler, Pa./Butler).
IUP made it a 4-1 ballgame in the sixth on a double to left center by
Anthony Rigous (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), scoring Wheeler from second. Swartz added an insurance run in the seventh with a single up the middle, bringing Wheeler around from second.
Christian McClure (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tossed the final two innings, giving up two hits and a run in the seventh.
In the opener, Winston-Salem scored a run in each of the first and third innings, and took a 4-0 lead after six. The Crimson Hawks scored their lone run in the seventh on an RBI single by
Chris Eisel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin).
Colin Claus (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) struck out seven in the start, scattering six hits in 5.2 innings with three earned runs.

The Crimson Hawks will play two more against Winston-Salem State on Sunday. First pitch has been moved up to 11 a.m. due to impending weather in the area.
