Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) scored 23 points and junior guard
Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added 21 to help IUP women's basketball to an 88-68 win over Glenville State in the semifinals of the 2018 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships Saturday night.
The Crimson Hawks advance to the Monday night's Atlantic Region title game against the winner of Edinboro and Bowie State.
IUP held a high-scoring Glenville State team to a season-low 68 points and 29.2 field goal percentage. The Pioneers (31-2) came into the game averaging more than 98 points per game, but made 10-of-34 from beyond the arc and turned the ball over 19 times on the night.
The Crimson Hawks are now 28-3 overall, breaking the program record for wins in a season. This will be IUP's first regional title game since the 2007 East Region Championship in Glenville, W.Va.
The IUP offense was on fire from the start, shooting nearly 54 percent on the night. For the second straight game the Crimson Hawks saw four players reach double-figures in scoring, led by Smith and Appleby.
Smith finished 10-of-22 from the floor with nine rebounds and Appleby shot 9-of-15 with six rebounds and five assists. Joining them were
Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) with 11 points and
Lexie Griggs (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) with a season-high 12 points off the bench.
Wolosik also had six assists, five steals and four rebounds and Griggs added five rebounds and two assists in just 17 minutes.

The 2018 Atlantic Region Championship game will be played at Virginia Union's historic Barco-Stevens Hall on Monday, March 12. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The winner will advance to the Elite Eight in Sioux Falls, South Dakota March 19-23.
