HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The 24th-ranked IUP women's tennis team opened their annual trip to the Spring Tennis Fest with a 7-2 victory over Michigan Tech Sunday morning at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) each won a pair of matches as the Crimson Hawks improved to 5-1 overall on the year.
The pair combined for an 8-3 victory at the top doubles spot over Michigan Tech's duo of Natalia Parra Alvarez and Sandra Cvetanovic. IUP also picked up a walkover win at the third spot as Michigan Tech played the match shorthanded.
IUP grabbed wins at the 1-2-3 single spots, with Petercakova winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, von Agris winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2, and
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) winning 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3. The Crimson Hawks also won No. 5 and No. 6 by walkover.
Von Agris gets closer to a record
With today's singles victory, von Agris is now at 85 career singles wins, one short of tying Tanya Timko for the IUP record.
