HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The 24th-ranked IUP women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on its South Carolina trip to an 8-1 win over Belmont Abbey Tuesday morning.
Senior Luise von Argris tied the program's all-time singles win mark with her 86th career victory. Von Agris defeated Belmont Abbey's Riley Ellingson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 to tie Tanya Timko (2011-15).
The win by von Agris was one five singles victories for the Crimson Hawks as they improved to 6-1 overall on the season.
Following von Agris' win was
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1.
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) at No. 3,
Julia Newman (Tauranga, New Zealand/Tauranga Girls' College) at No. 4, and
Mariana Valenzuela (Bogotá, Colombia/George Berkeley School) at No. 5 also picked up singles victories. Beidacki's was the closest IUP singles victory, winning 7-6 (3), 6-0.
IUP opened the match with three easy doubles victories, with Petercakova and von Agris taking a 6-1 lead before Belmont Abbey's top doubles pair was forced to retire. Beidacki and Valenzuela then won 8-2 at No. 2 and Newman and
Maria Magraner Grau (Valencia, Spain/IES Jaume II el Just) followed with another 8-2 win at No. 3.

The Crimson Hawks have two matchups left in Hilton Head, including Division I Bucknell Wednesday and Missouri-St. Louis Thursday. UMSL is currently ranked seventh in the Midwest Region by the ITA.
