INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team picked up a pair of victories Friday and Saturday over 43rd-ranked Goldey-Beacom (7-2) and West Chester (9-0) as the Crimson Hawks began the home portion of their schedule.
IUP's win over Goldey-Beacom actually came indoors in Ebensburg, a match that had to be moved due to snowy conditions. The Crimson Hawks defeated cross-divisional rival West Chester at Maple Street Courts.
The Goldey-Beacom win was the biggest of the weekend for IUP, as the Lightning entered with a perfect 12-0 record and are the second ranked team in the East Region.

Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) went a combined 4-0 in the two matches with two wins at No. 1 singles and two wins at No. 2 doubles.
Also going 4-0 were
Katya Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12),
Julia Newman (Tauranga, New Zealand/Tauranga Girls' College) and
Mariana Valenzuela (Bogotá, Colombia/George Berkeley School).
IUP improved to 8-3 on the season with the two victories.
IUP ends Goldey-Beacom's perfect record
The Crimson Hawks got off to a quick start, taking all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Petercakova and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) at No. 1 and Minchenkova and
Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) at No. 2 each picked up 8-6 victories.
In singles action, Petercakova and Valenzuela each won three-setters. Petercakova defeated Lotte Lesscher y Post 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 1, and Valenzuela defeated Silvia Hortelano Pey 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 6.
Crimson Hawks dominate West Chester
IUP dominated West Chester from start to finish, opening up with doubles wins of 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2, and 8-3 at No. 3.
In singles play, the Crimson Hawks took all six matches in two sets. Petercakova went 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, von Agris won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Minchenkova won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, Beidacki won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, Newman picked up a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at No. 5, and Valenzuela had a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6.

These matches opened up a run of four matches in five days for the Crimson Hawks. They'll take a break Sunday before returning to action Monday against West Liberty ad Tuesday against Clarion, both at home.
