IUP Women’s Tennis celebrates Senior Day with 9-0 win over Cal

INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis program celebrated seniors Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) with a 9-0 victory over visiting California (Pa.) at the Maple Street Courts Tuesday afternoon.

Petercakova and von Agris each picked up a pair of wins to help the Crimson Hawks to their sixth shutout win of the year as they improved to 13-5 overall and 4-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division.

RESULTS

The pair won 8-0 at first singles over Elizabeth Wohar and Charlie Gallagher, with Kayta Minchenkova and Nicole Beidacki (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Sao Judas Tadeu) following with another 8-0 win over Emilee Leydig and Alexa Uhylar at the second spot.

Petercakova and von Agris each won their singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, defeating Wohar and Gallagher. Minchenkova won 6-0, 6-1 at three over Leydig and Beidacki defeated Uhylar 6-0, 6-0.

Most decorated senior class in IUP history
Petercakova and von Agris have established themselves as the top senior class in program history. The two combined for 346 victories entering Tuesday's match, including the 2016 PSAC Doubles Championship last year.

Von Agris holds the program record for singles wins (94) and combined wins (195) and is now just three doubles wins shy of breaking that record. She owns the top two combined win seasons in IUP history, and earned Elite 90 and CoSIDA Academic All-America honors as a junior.

Petercakova is looking to become the program's first ever four-time first team All-PSAC West selection. Despite playing just two full seasons, she's fifth all-time at IUP with 84 doubles and 151 combined victories, and teamed with von Agris for a program record 28 doubles victories last year.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks have a big weekend coming up with four matches in four days. They'll play at Edinboro Thursday before squaring off with three of the top four teams in the Atlantic Region – No. 3 Mercyhurst Friday, No. 4 Charleston Saturday, and No. 2 West Virginia State Sunday.
