STOW, Ohio – The Crimson Hawks dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 44 Wayne State Sunday afternoon at the LaTuchie Tennis Center.
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) picked up two victories to lead the way for IUP, including an 8-6 win with
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) at first doubles over Wayne State's Dasha Kuznetsova and Khadija Da-Silva. Von Agris also picked up a win at second singles, defeating Kuznetsova 7-6 (6-2), 6-4.
RESULTS
The Crimson Hawks' other win came from
Mariana Valenzuela (Bogotá, Colombia/George Berkeley School) at six singles. She defeated Brianna Douglas in exciting, comeback fashion by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 14-12.
The match was the second one of the weekend for the Crimson Hawks against a top-50 opponent. They fell to No. 22 Grand Valley State 7-2 Saturday afternoon. GVSU and Wayne State represent two of the toughest opponents on IUP's schedule, ranked third and eighth, respectively, in the Midwest Region.
