QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – IUP softballs post-season run concludes, as they fell to Shippensburg 3-0 in the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships elimination round at Veterans Park Thursday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks end 2018 with a 20-17 overall and 11-9 in the PSAC. IUP earned the No. 3 seed in the Central Division heading into the championships.
The Crimson Hawks played the field tight, holding off Shippensburg until the top of the fourth. Advancing to third on a scoring error, Shippensburg's Chole Collins tripled, bringing in two runs scored. Shippensburg responded with a fly out to right field, scoring their third and final run.
With two on-base in the bottom of the fourth and sixth, IUP was unable to produce.
IUP combined for 25 at bats and four hits. Those four hits each came from each respective Crimson Hawk;
Kassie Kesneck (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston),
Alaina Montgomery (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield),
Renee Wall (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights), and
Amanda Parrish (Dysart, Pa./Altoona).
Pitching all seven, junior
Lauren Zola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle) grabbed the loss, finishing with four hits, three runs and two errors.
