IUP announces 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Class

INDIANA, Pa. - IUP has announced its 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame induction class. The class of 12 individuals will be inducted at a ceremony on Saturday, September 22 prior to the Crimson Hawks' home football game against Mercyhurst.
 
The public event, which will be held in the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, will start with a reception at 10:45 a.m. followed by the induction luncheon at 11:30 a.m.
 
The 12 inductees include: Scott Arthur (men's golf), Joe Bellissimo (football/baseball), Suzanne Cornellissen (field hockey), Owen Dougherty (men's soccer), Brian Eyerman (football), Erin Falce (women's soccer), Joey Flora (football), Beth Ann MacDonald-Stevens (women's basketball), Frances Nee (administration, coach), Carmelo Ocasio (football), Sean Strauman (men's cross country/track & field), John Wingfield (men's diving coach). Former IUP Athletic Department administrative assistant Mary Lou Kraynak will receive the annual Bell Ringer Award for her contributions to IUP Athletics. 
 
The new inductees bring the total to 268 former athletes, coaches and administrators who have made significant contributions to IUP athletics and have enhanced its image and reputation and are now enshrined in the IUP Athletics Hall of Fame.
 
The football game against Mercyhurst is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff from Frank Cignetti Field at George P. Miller Stadium. The inductees will also be publicly honored at halftime of the game.

Scott Arthur (1979) – Men's Golf
Three-time All-American (NAIA, NCAA twice) … Four-year varsity letter-winner

Joe Bellissimo (1965) – Football/Baseball
First team PA State Colleges All-Star, first team Pittsburgh Press All-District, and second team AP All-Pennsylvania in 1964 … Set school career record for yards per catch average, held for 24 years

Suzanne Cornelissen (2006) – Field Hockey
Best player in program history … Owns top two scoring seasons at IUP (2004-05) … 2005 PSAC Player of the Year … Two-time first team All-PSAC

Owen Dougherty (1988) – Men's Soccer
Three-year All Western PA Intercollegiate Soccer Conference … Two-year PSAC All-Star … Played all 4 years in every game … Two-year team captain … Played on 1982 PSAC finalist

Brian Eyerman (2003) – Football
Four-year starting quarterback ... PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year in 2002 ... Program's all-time passing leader with 8,409 yards and 84 touchdowns ... IUP record 36 passing touchdowns in 2002

Erin Falce (2006) – Women's Soccer
Four-time All-PSAC selection … Played on two PSAC Championship teams … Scored 29 goals, 68 points in 2004 (PSAC Record) … 151 career points (second in IUP history, sixth in PSAC history)

Joey Flora (2002) - Football
First team All-America cornerback, PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 … Two-time All-PSAC West … Eight interceptions in 2001, 14 for career

Beth Ann MacDonald-Stevens (2001) – Women's Basketball
Second team All-PSAC West in 1999 … Ranked in the top 20 at IUP in 12 career statistical categories … Scored 1202 points (15th in IUP history) in 112 games played (14th in IUP history)

Frances Nee – Administration, Coach
Coach and administrator for 25 years (1987-2012) … Served as head men's and women's swimming coach from 1987-95 … Coached four IUP Hall of Famers … Appointed full-time associated athletic director and senior woman administrator in 1995

Carmelo Ocasio (2003) – Football
All-American wide receiver … Three-time first team All-PSAC West … Second all-time in IUP history with 165 receptions, 2,891 yards, and 34 touchdowns … Played on three PSAC West champion teams

Sean Strauman (2008) – Men's Cross Country/Track & Field
IUP Scholar-Athlete of the Year 2008 … Three-time PSAC Top 10 Award Recipient … ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II Section II Team 2006 … Five-time NCAA All-American; 2008 NCAA 800m Champion … Two-time PSAC Athlete of the Year 

John Wingfield (1985) – Diving
2008 U.S. Olympic diving coach in Beijing, China … 2007 diving coach for World Championships and Pan-American Games … USOC Diving Coach of the Year 2006-08 … Graduate assistant diving coach at IUP 1986-88
