IUP Baseball’s season comes to an end after doubleheader split against California

INDIANA, Pa. — IUP Baseball's season ends after a doubleheader split against California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at Dougherty Field.
 
The Crimson Hawks fell to the Vulcans 12-7 in game one and won game two 8-7. IUP finishes the season with an overall record of 16-28 and 11-17 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). California took the weekend series 3-1.
 
IUP was the first on the board in game one, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third from senior Chris Wheeler's single to left field and then off senior Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York)'s groundout to the shortstop.
 
Starting pitcher junior Jeff Allen (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) posted a season-high six strikeouts in 3.0 innings.
 
Six Crimson Hawks recorded base hits consisting of Wheeler, Chris Eisel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Nate Dickey (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) each having one, and Ted DeSanti (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep), Anthony Rigous (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) each having two.
 
The Vulcans took the lead after scoring nine runs in the top of the fourth.
 
In game two, DeSanti went 3-for-3, with two RBI and scoring one run. Eisel and Sepic both went 3-for-4, with one RBI and each scoring two runs. IUP scored half of their runs in the first inning with three singles up the middle and one to right center.
 
California tied the game in the top of the seventh with a 2-run home run. The bases were loaded in the bottom of the seventh when Eisel hit a single to center field to bring Tyler Adams (Vinco, Pa./Central Cambria) home to win the game.
 
IUP combined for 21 hits, including three doubles and one triple.
