IUP Women’s Volleyball drops three-setter to Shippensburg

INDIANA, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks fell to Shippensburg in three sets Friday night at the Memorial Field House. It was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for both squads.
 
Shippensburg (11-2, 1-0) swept the match with scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-18. The Raiders' 11 wins are tied for the most in the conference.
 
The Raiders hit well all night, finishing with 40 kills and a .356 hitting percentage. They also had eight total team blocks.
 
IUP (4-9, 0-1) didn't start off strong offensively with four kills and seven errors in the opening set. Although the Crimson Hawks finished with a -.066 hitting percentage on the night, they improved in the third set with 12 kills. Junior Jessica Ignace finished with a team-high six kills and sophomore Shelby Miles had four kills and no errors on eight total attacks.
 
Defensively, senior libero Jess Marut had 13 digs for the Crimson Hawks.

The Crimson Hawks continue their conference-opening home weekend Saturday with a match against Pitt-Johnstown (4-6, 0-1) in the Kovalchick Complex. First serve comes at 1 p.m.
