INDIANA, Pa. - An early goal by Forward
Mahogany Willis proved not to be enough for the IUP women's soccer team this afternoon in their match against East Stroudsburg, as despite scoring first the Crimson Hawks eventually ended up falling to the Warriors by a score of 6-1.
The Crimson Hawks (4-3, 3-3 PSAC) started the game in the best manner possible in the tenth minute when
Nikki Bowman set up fellow Freshman
Mahogany Willis for her team leading fifth goal of the season following some good build up play by the IUP midfield. IUP's advantage would be short-lived however, as East Stroudsburg answered with a goal of their own mere seconds later to even the score. That goal opened the floodgates for the Warriors who soon added three more goals in a span of six minutes to turn the game completely on its head. While the Crimson Hawks were able to recover their composure and prevent any further damage in the half, the two sides went into the break with the Warriors securely ahead on the scoreboard.
The Crimson Hawks made a series of changes to start the second half in an effort to find a way back into the game, creating several promising chances as the contest wore on. However, despite the positive play from IUP it was the Warriors who would continue to add to the score sheet as they extended their lead in the 65th minute with a fifth goal. They then rounded out the scoring with final tally five minutes before full time with a header off of a corner kick.
