LEWISBURG, Pa. – IUP women's tennis players combined for eight victories as they opened up play at Bucknell University's Bison Invite Friday.
The Crimson Hawks went a combined 6-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles action.
Day 1 Results
Players getting singles wins included
Laura Dunarova in Flight 1;
Julia Newman in Flight 2;
Mariana Valenzuela and
Thais Andreotti in Flight 3; and
Maria Magraner and
Flavia Flandoli in Flight 4.
Each win came over Division I competition. Dunarova defeated Marist's Chloe Lant 6-4, 6-3; Newman rallied to beat Niagara's Shannon Wong 4-6, 6-3, 10-7; Valenzuela defeated Binghamton's Ashley Granieri 7-6, 6-2; Andreotti defeated Niagara's Megan Gamble 6-2, 6-3; Magraner beat Binghamton's Emily Wong 6-1, 6-1; and Flandoli went three sets with Niagara's Loreanna Armenti, winning 6-3, 3-6, 10-4.
In doubles play, Valenzuela and Andreotti picked up a 6-4 win over a team from Niagara, and Newman and
Katya Minchenkova defeated a pair from Bucknell by a score of 6-0.
