LEWISBURG, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team put together another successful day at Bucknell University's Bison Invite, with four different Crimson Hawks advancing to championship matches of their respective flights.
With a combined four victories Saturday, junior
Mariana Valenzuela and freshman
Thais Andreotti will face each other in the Flight 3 championship match Sunday.
Day 2 results
Valenzuela defeated Danielle Gannon of Bucknell 6-2, 6-2 and Sabina Grigorian of Villanova 6-1, 7-5 Saturday to advance. Andreotti picked up wins over Abbey Markel of Bucknell and Sophie Chavannia of Marist (6-2, 7-5) to move on.
In Flight 4, sophomores
Maria Magraner and
Flavia Flandoli will play for the title after each picking up a win Saturday. Magraner defeated Niagrara's Alexandra Whitney 6-0, 6-1 and Flandoli beat Maya Haykai of Binghamton 7-5, 3-6, 10-6.
Two more Crimson Hawks advanced in the consolation semifinals of their respective brackets in freshman
Laura Dunarova and sophomore
Julia Newman. Dunarova opened her day with a loss to move into the consolation bracket of Flight 1, but rebounded with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 comeback win over Mishi Papich of Bucknell to advance to the semis.
Newman also started with a loss before defeating teammate
Katya Minchenkova after she retired in the second set in the first round of the consolation bracket of Flight 2.
