MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - A goal early in each half proved to be enough to secure victory for the No. 25 Millersville Marauders over The IUP women's soccer team (4-4-1, 3-4-1 PSAC) this afternoon.
Sophomore Talia Gynkewicz opened the scoring for Millersville in the 13th minute giving the Marauders an early lead that they would not relinquish in the game. Forward Kay Liebl would then add to the Millersville lead in the 57h minute with her conference leading 8th goal of the season.
Despite the cliché that a two goal lead is the most dangerous one to have, the Marauders defense made sure to avoid this common pitfall by holding the IUP offense to only five shots in the entire game, while their offense racked up thirteen efforts of their own at the other end of the field.
With the route to goal through open play proving to be a rather fruitless option, The IUP attack turned to set pieces in an effort to breach the Millersville backline. Despite earning four corners in the match to the Marauders solitary chance the Crimson Hawks' efforts came up short in this avenue as well.
IUP would come closest to cutting the deficit in the 86th minute when a free kick by
Hannah Stoof beat Millersville goalkeeper Erin Heimbach, only for the ball to bounce inches over the crossbar as well.
