Wolosik’s career day for No. 1 Crimson Hawks highlights 97-73 win over Edinboro

INDIANA, Pa. – Redshirt senior guard Lauren Wolosik scored 33 points and dished out 10 assists to helphe No. 1-ranked IUP women's basketball team to a 97-73 win over visiting Edinboro Monday afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.
 
It was a career-high in points for Wolosik, who also tallied her first collegiate double-double as the Crimson Hawks improved to 15-0 on the year including a 10-0 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
 
Wolosik shot 14-of-18 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. She also finished with four steals, three rebounds, and a blocked shot and turned it over just once in 30 minutes.
 
The Crimson Hawks shot nearly 52 percent for the game, drained 10 3-pointers, held a plus-12 rebounding advantage and forced Edinboro (10-5, 6-4 PSAC) into 16 turnovers in the commanding victory.
 
The Fighting Scots entered the game in third place in the PSAC West with a win over nationally-ranked Cal U in their pockets.
 
IUP dominated from the outset, using runs of 8-0 and 11-0 in the first quarter to take a 31-15 lead after the first 10 minutes. The trey was the Crimson Hawks' friend early with their first four made shots all from outside the arc. They ended up making seven 3-pointers in the first quarter, including four off the hand of Wolosik.
 
The lead extended to 20 at 35-15 less than a minute into the second quarter and reached as high as 26 points before halftime.
 
Edinboro did come out inspired in the second half, cutting its deficit to 13 at 59-46 with 6:46 on the clock in the third quarter.
 
The Crimson Hawks responded with a 16-4 run, with Wolosik running the show with eight points, three assists and two steals.
 
The lead remained in the 20s for the rest of the afternoon as IUP posted its highest point total against a conference opponent this year.
 
Notes
The Crimson Hawks are No. 1 in the WBCA Top 25 and No. 4 in the D2SIDA Media Top 25 polls … IUP is now 4-0 playing as the No. 1 team in the nation with a plus-27.3 scoring margin … Wolosik's 33 points are the most since Megan Smith scored 34 last year and are tied for the eighth most in single game IUP history … Wolosik's 419 assists are third in IUP history, 14 shy of second place Kiersten Filla's 433 … Senior guard Carolyn Appleby scored 23 points and moved into fifth place in IUP history with 1,392 career points … It was Appleby's 21st career 20-point game, including her third straight.

The win sets up a top-25 battle Wednesday when the Crimson Hawks host No. 15 Cal U. The Vulcans improved to 15-1 overall and 9-1 in the PSAC with a 66-59 win over Seton Hill earlier today. Game time Wednesday is 5:30 p.m.
