Box Score 1 INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule with a pair of dual match road wins over Millersville and Shippensburg Saturday.
The Crimson Hawks defeated a revamped Millersville squad 6-1 and blanked Shippensburg 7-0.
IUP took the doubles point in both contests, sweeping the six combined matches. The Crimson Hawks experimented with three doubles pairings in different spots over the two matchups.
Mariana Valenzuela and
Joanna Stralka had the first shot at the top spot with a 6-4 win in the Millersville match, while
Thais Andreotti and
Maria Magraner had a 6-0 win at No. 1 against Shippensburg.
IUP also shuffled its singles lineups Saturday. Stralka defeated Millersville's Esperanza Contador at the top spot 6-3, 6-2 as IUP picked up wins at the top five spots. Also winning were
Katya Minchenkova at No. 2 6-3, 6-1;
Julia Newman at No. 3 6-2, 5-7, 11-9;
Laura Dunarova 7-6, 6-3 at No. 4; and Andreotti 6-, 6-1 at No. 5.
At Shippensburg, Minchenkova played in the No. 1 spot and tallied a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Also winning were Newman at No. 2 6-0, 6-2; Andreotti 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 Dunarova 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4; Valenzuela 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5; and Mangraner by forfeit at No. 6.
The Crimson Hawks wrapped up a successful fall season that included a PSAC singles championship by Stralka a week ago. Stralka went 15-1 in singles play during the fall, including 14 wins during tournament play.
