Eight players score in Crimson Hawks victory over Salem

INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's soccer team (7-5-0, 5-5-0 PSAC West)  produced a dominant display to secure a 8-0 victory over the visiting Salem Tiers (1-10-0) on Sunday afternoon. THe Crimson Hawks spread the wealth on Sunday afternoon, as eight different members of the team each recorded a goal in the win. The eight goals scored by the Crimson Hawks were the most scored by the team in a single since 2010 when the Crimson Hawks defeated Shepard 10-0.

How it Happened
>> The Crimson Hawks opened the match with an impressive scoring blitz, going three goals up on the Tigers in the first twelve minutes of the game.
>> Freshman Alayna Ryan got things started for IUP in the 6th minute with an impressive sliding outside of the foot finish. Ryan's goal was set up by an exception long field pass by midfielder Mya Hilliard, who picked up her fourth assist of the season.
>> Less than two minutes later the Crimson Hawks had the ball in the back of the net again. This time it was midfielder Gia Martyn whose long range strike found the top corner of the Tigers net.
>> The Crimson Hawks would then add another goal from long range in the 12th minute. A foul on the Crimson Hawks gave defender Makenzie Witzel a chance to line a free kick up from 30 yards out, and her unerring strike beat Chelsea Cordice in the Salem goal.
>> Despite racking up numerous shots as the rest of the first half progressed, the Crimson Hawks were unable to add to their three goal lead before the halftime break. Hilliard came the closest to adding to the IUP lead in the 43rd minute when her shot hit off of the outside of the Salem goal post.
>> The Crimson Hawks would make a host of changes to begin the second half. Despite the change in personnel, the second half begin in a similar manner to the first, with the Crimson Hawks notching three goals in less than twelve minutes.
>> Molly Katzmann opened the scoring in the second half for IUP in the 49th minute with another longe range strike.
>> Just seconds later the Crimson Hawks would pick up their fifth goal of the match, this time through a Lindsey Swontek shot.
>> The Crimson Hawks continued to pour on the pressure, and the goals continued to flow for the offense. Midfielder Emily Grychowski got in on the action in teh 60th minute when she volleyed home the rebound from a shot by forward Deavion Anderson.
>> Anderson would pick up another assist ten minutes later. This time it was forward Madi Machmer who would benefit from Anderson's rebound as she was on hand to turn in her first goal of the season in the 70th minute.
>> The Crimson Hawks would round off the scoring in the 82nd minute through freshman Camila Gonzalez-Toldeo. For the third goal in a row it was Anderson who was the provider, her cross from the left side found Gozalez-Toldeo unmarked in front of the Salem goal, and the freshman forward camly tucked home the ball for IUP's eighth goal of the game.

Game Notes
>> Goalkeeper Maria Tunney made her first start of the season in net for the Crimson Hawks. 
>> Tunney made three saves in the match en route to earning her first shutout, and win of the season.
>> Twenty-two members of the IUP team saw action in the match.
>> Eleven members of the team picked up at least one point in the game.
>> Six Crimson Hawks picked up the first goals of the season on Sunday. Gia Martyn, Lindsey Swontek, Molly Katzmann, Camila Gonzalez-Toldeo, Emily Grychowski, and Madi Machmer all opened their IUP accounts for the season against Salem.
>> The Crimson Hawks out shot the Tigers 25-4 on Sunday.
>> IUP earned six corners to Salem's one.

>> The Crimson Hawks will hit the road for a match in Erie, Pa. against the Gannon Lady Knights on Wednesday night, before then welcoming Slippery Rock University to Indiana on Saturday afternoon.
