BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – IUP's two singles entries and its doubles team each advanced in their respective brackets on the first day of the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tennis Championships Saturday at Bloomsburg University.
The doubles team of
Katya Minchenkova and
Idoia Huerta won two matches to advance to the semifinals, while Minchenkova and
Joanna Stralka each won their first round singles matches to move on.
Minchenkova and Huerta opened Saturday with an easy 8-0 win over Shepherd's Ally Frushour and Isabella Mascari. They advanced to the semis with a 9-8 (2) win over Kaelyn Zak and Jenna Bailey of Seton Hill.
They'll face Millersville's Esperanza Contador and Julia Wallace in Sunday's semifinals.
In the singles bracket, Minchenkova defeated Isabella Mascara of Shepherd 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round. Stalka moved on with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Shippensburg's Paige Simons.
The Crimson Hawks are looking for their first individual PSAC title since
Luise von Agris and
Jarka Petercakova won the 2016 doubles championship.
