Joanna Stralka wins PSAC singles championship

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – IUP freshman Joanna Stralka won the singles title at the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Tennis Individual Championships Monday at the Central PA Tennis Center Monday afternoon.

She becomes the second player in program history to win the conference's singles title, joining Yvonne Niederbracht in 2004. It's the third overall PSAC individual title in school history, including the 2016 doubles championship by Jarka Petercakova and Luise von Agris.

Stralka defeated Slippery Rock senior Viola Lugmayr 6-1, 6-3 in the afternoon championship, capping five straight wins over the weekend.

She ends her fall tournament campaign with a 14-1 singles record, including a run of 11 straight wins dating back to the ITA Atlantic Region Championships.

The win caps a successful PSAC Championships performance by the Crimson Hawks that included a doubles runner-up finish by the team of Katya Minchenkova and Idoia Huerta Sunday.
