INDIANA, Pa. – Senior guard
Natalie Myers scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and was one of several individual highlights for ninth-ranked IUP women's basketball in a 96-44 win over West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Field House.
Myers connected on 5-of-7 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, adding a pair of free throws and two steals in 26 minutes. Half of her game-high 10 boards came on the offensive glass as the Crimson Hawks finished with a 45-22 rebounding advantage.
The win was the second for IUP in its season-opening weekend, also taking down Davis & Elkins 81-52 Saturday afternoon.
Myers was one of four players in double-figures for the Crimson Hawks, who saw junior guard
Justina Mascaro score a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line. She added five assists, four rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes on the court.
Also hitting double-figures were senior forward
Lexi Griggs with 14 points and sophomore forward
Teirra Preston with 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
IUP never trailed, scoring the game's first 10 points and took a 27-6 lead after the first quarter. IUP scored 26 more points in the second and outscored Wesleyan (1-1) 24-11 in the third quarter.
The Crimson Hawks shot 55.4 percent from the floor, including a 17-of-29 performance in the game's second half. They hit seven 3-pointers and took advantage of their time at the foul line going 17-of-21. In all, 12 Crimson Hawks saw the scoring column.
