INDIANA, Pa. –
Lexi Griggs scored 17 points and the Crimson Hawks doubled up East Stroudsburg in the fourth quarter as the 16th-ranked IUP women's basketball team defeated the Warriors 65-50 Sunday afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.
Clinging to a three point lead through 30 minutes, the Crimson Hawks opened the fourth quarter on a 20-1 run to take a commanding 61-39 lead. They stretched it to as many as 23 late in the game to wrap up an undefeated, conference-opening weekend.
IUP ended up shooting 10-of-10 from the field in the fourth quarter and finished 56.8 percent (25-of-44) for the game.
The Crimson Hawks also defeated Bloomsburg 66-52 Saturday in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Griggs shot 7-of-10 from the floor to tie her season-high with 17 points. She also had four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 30 minutes.
Despite shooting 50 percent in the first half, the Crimson Hawks let East Stroudsburg (2-3, 0-2) hang around by committing nine turnovers. IUP ended up turning the ball over 21 times in the game with the Warriors gaining 20 points off those turnovers.
IUP's biggest first half lead came in the second quarter at 24-17 after a 3-pointer by
Natalie Myers and layup by Griggs. The Crimson Hawks took an 8-point lead in the third on another trey by Myers but ESU outscored IUP 14-11 in the frame with IUP holding onto a 41-38 lead heading to the fourth.
Myers finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, stretching her 3-point streak to six straight games to start the season.
IUP received 25 points from the bench, including
Mikayla Lovelace with 12 points. She also had five rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes.

The Crimson Hawks return to non-conference play this week with a trip to Salem (1-4) in West Virginia on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
