Maxwell tosses three touchdowns, No. 19 Crimson Hawks cruise in Senior Day win over Edinboro

INDIANA, Pa. – Quarterback Quinton Maxwell threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns to help lead 19th-ranked IUP to a 35-6 win over Edinboro during Senior Day at George P. Miller Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Maxwell finished his day 19-of-32 with his passing touchdowns going to fellow seniors JoJo Gause (two) and Dom McNeil. Gause finished with a career-high seven receptions for 117 yards.

It was the fourth straight win for the Crimson Hawks who improved to 9-1 overall and finished their divisional record with a mark of 6-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division.

Leading the defensive charge was junior corner Nazir Streater, who picked off two passes and broke up three others while adding nine tackles. Senior linebackers Damon Lloyd and Nick Amendola each had 10 tackles while senior defensive end Dondrea Tillman had 2.0 tackles-for-loss and a sack.

The Crimson Hawks started slow and didn't score until the middle of the second quarter when Maxwell found McNeil for seven yards in the back left of the end zone. They added another score on a 2-yard run by receiver Duane Brown out of the Wildcat later in the quarter to take a 14-3 lead into halftime.

The offense picked it up in the second half with Maxwell connecting with Gause for scores from four and 47 yards out. Junior running back Justice Evans added a 1-yard plunge to cap the scoring with just under 11 minutes to play in the game.

Edinboro quarterback Levi Becker looked toward Streater's boundary side of the field early and often before the all-region corner made him pay. Streater picked off two passes in the third quarter alone to put an early end to a pair of Edinboro drives.

Streater also factored into the return game, totaling 92 yards on three kickoff returns.

Three Edinboro drives started in IUP territory but the Crimson Hawks' defense gave up just one field goal on those three drives combined.

IUP forced six punts, picked off three passes and forced the Fighting Scots into two turnovers on downs in addition to a missed field goal.

Notes
The Crimson Hawks are No. 19 in the AFCA Coaches' and No. 20 in the D2Football Media Top 25 polls … IUP was also ranked No. 4 in the season's second NCAA Super Region One rankings … Brown extended his touchdown streak to 10 straight games … He moved into a tie for fourth in program history with 18 touchdowns (13 receiving, five rush) and is just three away from tying Michael Mann (21) for the most … Brown also had a 57-yard punt return and was stopped just short of the goal line … Maxwell has 28 passing touchdowns this year, moving into fourth most in a single season at IUP … Brian Eyerman threw for 36 touchdowns in 2002 … Streater leads the PSAC with five interceptions and 14 total passes defensed … Tillman moved into fourth in IUP history with 29.0 career sacks … The zero rushing yards by the Crimson Hawks is the fourth fewest in program history and the least since rushing for 13 yards against New Haven in 1997.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks wrap up their regular season and look to keep the momentum for the playoffs next week at Shippensburg. IUP looks for a little revenge on the Raiders, who defeated the Crimson Hawks 45-21 to end their 2018 season prematurely. The Raiders are 4-6 overall and finished 4-3 in the PSAC East.
