INDIANA, Pa. – Five Crimson Hawks scored in double-figures as the fifth-ranked IUP men's basketball team had its biggest offensive output in years in a 108-41 victory over visiting Bethany College Sunday afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.
Redshirt sophomore guard
Armoni Foster led all scorers with 19 points and had a career-high seven steals to help the Crimson Hawks dominate on both ends of the court in the blowout victory.
The Crimson Hawks remained undefeated with the win, improving to 8-0 in their final non-conference game of the year.
The 108 points scored is the most in the 14 years under head coach
Joe Lombardi and the 67-point margin of victory is the second largest in program history (81, vs. Lancaster Bible, 1990).
IUP shot 54.4 percent from the field and hit season-highs with 12 3-pointers, a 50.0 3-point field goal percentage, 30 assists, 49 rebounds and 18 steals.
Seven different Crimson Hawks hit at least one 3-pointer for the game with eight of those 12 came in the second half alone. All 10 players who saw the court scored at least five points for IUP.
IUP's lead was held mostly in single digits until a 15-0 run over a 4:46 span midway through the first half made it a 30-9 ballgame. The lead reached as many as 28 points in the first half and went into halftime with a score of 49-23.
The Crimson Hawks utterly dominated the second half, opening with a 24-5 run and held Bethany without a field goal for nearly 11 minutes. IUP outscored the Bison 59-18 in the second half alone.
Individual highlights
Foster shot 7-of-11 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and had four rebounds, four assists and a block in 27 minutes.
Senior guard
Malik Miller scored 17 points, knocked down three 3-pointers and dished out five assists. Senior forward
Chucky Humphries did a little of everything with seven points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Junior guards
Shawndale Jones and
Anthony White came off the bench to combine for 30 points – Jones scored a season-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting and White had 14 points with three steals.
Two players nearly hit double-doubles, with sophomore guard
Dave Morris dishing out a career-high 10 assists to go with eight points while freshman forward
Ethan Porterfield had 11 points and nine rebounds in his first career start.
