INDIANA, Pa. – IUP football seniors
Jeff Arnold and
Damon Lloyd were named to the Associated Press (AP) Division II All-America team, announced Wednesday afternoon. Both were selected to the second team.
The team, presented by Regions Bank was selected by a panel of sports information directors and the AP.
The duo helped the Crimson Hawks to a 10-2 record and the program's 19th appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs. IUP boasted one of the top offenses and defenses in the country during the season, averaging 44.2 points per game (sixth in Division II) while giving up just 17.3 (14th). The Crimson Hawks were also in the top-25 nationally in total offense (476.7) and total defense (302.6).
This marks the fourth straight season IUP has put at least one player on an All-American team. Arnold and Lloyd are the 62nd and 63rd players in program history to receive All-American status from the Associated Press.
Arnold one of the top linemen in Division II
This is the second All-American honor for Arnold, who was an honorable mention selection by Don Hansen Football Gazette last season.
This year, Arnold was one of eight finalists for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award, given to the best senior offensive or defensive lineman in the country. The center captained an offense that set a program record with 3,621 passing yards and 301.8 passing yards per game, while also averaging 174.9 rushing yards with 32 touchdowns on the ground in 12 games.
Arnold is a four-time All-Super Region One and All-PSAC West selection who started 46 games in his four-year career.
Lloyd among best linebackers in program history
Lloyd put the finishing touches on an excellent career with his second All-American nod, earning third team honors from the Hansen Gazette as a sophomore in 2017.
The three-time All-Super Region One and All-PSAC West selection was also a nominee for the 2019 Cliff Harris Award, which goes to the top small college (DII, DIII, NAIA) defensive player in the country.
Lloyd was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year, finishing his final season with a career-high 122 total tackles. That number ranks seventh in Division II and is the most by an IUP player since Nick Pascarella (127) in 1990.
The defensive captain made plays all over the field, totaling 6.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception and five more passes broken up. Lloyd's interception, the third of his career, was returned 40 yards for a touchdown during a 35-0 victory over Gannon.
