Alexander hits career-high, No. 13 IUP Women’s Hoops nearly doubles up Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Redshirt junior Courtney Alexander scored 18 points, one of five Crimson Hawks in double-figures, as 13th-ranked IUP women's basketball beat up on Mansfield 71-38 Saturday afternoon the Mountaineers' Decker Gymnasium.
 
Alexander's 18 points was a game-high and career-high as she hit six 3-pointers and added five rebounds and three assists in the win.
 
It was the sixth straight victory for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 8-1 overall and remained undefeated in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with a 3-0 record.
 
It was the second straight game, and third time this season, that the Crimson Hawks held an opponent under 40 points. For the season IUP is giving up just 49.1 points per game.
 
IUP held Mansfield (2-6, 0-3) under 10 points in two different quarters Saturday and led 41-21 at halftime. The Mountaineers scored 12 points in the first quarter but IUP still doubled up their score with 24 points in the first 10 minutes.
 
The Crimson Hawks held Mansfield to a 24.5 field goal percentage (13-of-53), forced 16 turnovers and blocked three shots. IUP also held a +21 rebounding advantage over Mansfield.
 
In addition to Alexander, several other Crimson Hawks stood out with individual performances.
 
Senior guard Natalie Myers and redshirt junior forward Maura D'Anna each posted double-doubles. Myers had 11 points and 10 rebounds while D'Anna went for 13 and 12, adding three blocks and two steals.
 
Junior guard Justina Mascaro scored 11 points and dished out five assists and sophomore guard Rajah Fink came off the bench to score 10 points and grab seven rebounds.
 
Up next
The Crimson Hawks have one more weekend of action in the 2019 calendar year. They'll play at PSAC East opponents Shepherd Friday night and Shippensburg Saturday, both 5:30 p.m. tips.
