GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Crimson Hawks took two of three doubles matches but couldn't keep the momentum going as IUP dropped a non-conference women's tennis matchup to Division III Denison indoors Sunday afternoon.
It was the first loss of the spring for the Crimson Hawks, who are now 2-1. Denison, the 30th-ranked team in Division III, improved to 1-2.
Julia Newman and
Mariana Valenzuela picked up IUP's first win of the day 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Laura Dunarova and
Flavia Flandoli followed that with an 8-7 (5-0) win at No. 3 to give IUP a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
IUP's top team of Kayta Minchenkova and
Thais Andreotti dropped an 8-5 decision to start the day to Denison's Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup, the 25th-ranked duo in Division II.
Denison won singles matches at No. 1 and No. 4 to take a 3-2 lead in the match before Dunarova won a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 3. Denison then wrapped up the win with three straight singles victories.

The Crimson Hawks look to rebound next weekend with two more matches in Ohio. They'll face Case Western Reserve Saturday night and Oberlin Sunday morning.
