Crimson Hawks can’t overcome first half deficit in loss at No. 12 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – After falling behind by seven goals in the opening half, the IUP women's lacrosse team couldn't mount a comeback as the Crimson Hawks dropped a 15-10 decision to 12th-ranked Limestone Tuesday evening.

Ally Burrows scored a team-high three goals while Chloe Borland and Kathryn Zeiler each had two. Borland also assisted on a pair of goals.

The Crimson Hawks dropped to 2-2 on the year with the loss and split their games in the Carolinas after defeating Wingate 14-11 Sunday.

Goals by Burrows and Zeiler put IUP on top 2-1 early in the game, but a 5-0 run by Limestone (6-1) put the Saints on top 6-2 midway through the half.

IUP did cut its deficit in half with goals by Adriana Greco and Katie Martyn but another run by the Saints gave them an 11-4 lead at the break.

Limestone dominated the ball in the opening 30 minutes, owning the edge in shots (24-7), ground balls (14-5), and draw controls (9-7). The Saints also forced IUP into nine turnovers.

The Saints came out with two quick goals in the second half to extend their run to 7-0 and their lead to 13-4. IUP did score four straight goals in the period all in a 5:23 span but it was too late for the Crimson Hawks as their time ran out.
