KISSIMMEE, Fla. –
Brooklyn Kotula scattered five hits over nine innings but the Crimson Hawks dropped a 4-3 extra inning affair to Bemidji State as part of a pair of losses Thursday afternoon.
Kotula struck out six hitters without a walk and allowed two earned runs as she received extended work in the narrow loss.
The afternoon game went to extra innings tied at 1-1 with both teams adding another to the scoreboard in the eighth. IUP's tying score came with two outs in the bottom of the eighth as
Kaitlyn Beers hit a double down the left field line to score
Bethany Bunner from second.
Bemidji State took a 4-2 lead on a pair of hits in the top of the ninth. IUP picked up two quick outs but took advantage of poor pitching as
Jenna Rhue scored when
Renee Wall was hit by a pitch to force in a run. The threat ended there with a bases loaded fly out.
The Crimson Hawks also dropped a 5-0 game to Auburn Montgomery earlier in the day. IUP had just one hit and two base runners in the loss.
Up next
IUP is now 3-9 overall, including 2-8 this week in Florida. The Crimson Hawks have four games left in the Sunshine State including games against Bentley and Ohio Dominican Friday.
