HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – It came down to the final point as the Crimson Hawks dropped a 4-3 decision to Nebraska-Kearney Friday morning.
The deciding win by the Lopers came at the first singles spot as
Katya Minchenkova fell to Vasilisa Polunova in three sets by a score of 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-8.
It was tied at 3-3 heading into the final point as Nebraska-Kearney rallied from a 2-0 deficit.
The Crimson Hawks took the doubles point with wins at the two and three spots.
Julia Newman and
Mariana Valenzuela secured a 6-2 win at two while
Laura Dunarova and
Maria Magraner won by a score of 6-1 at three.
Newman gave IUP a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win at second singles, but Nebraska-Kearney fought back with three straight wins at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots to take a 3-2 lead.
Dunarova tied things up with an exciting 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-6 win at three.

The Crimson Hawks wrapped up their Spring Tennis Fest with a 1-3 record and return home with a 3-5 overall mark. They return to action Saturday, March 23 against Seton Hill at the Maple Street Courts.
